Creating Community, One Piece of Candy at a Time

A simple sticky note and a dish of candy are sparking conversation and bringing a little extra joy to students and staff alike.

Death Poems

I will keep you on my wall And watch you burn Until hell freezes over.

Photo Spotlight: Jamie Mack

I have developed a new joke this past year: “performing arts is the worst extracurricular to have during a pandemic.” Football players can play a game without students in the stand, dance teams can compete without spectators, film makers can still make films, but without an audience theatre is not theatre. We create shows for the audience. As a result, I have found all of this pent up creativity that I would normally put towards theatre. I took a film photography class at Northwest Academy my sophomore year and decided to spend some extra time with my Canon FTB this past year. I have grown quite fond of her and plan to keep her on my hip from here on out.

Flag flying at half mast over the Grand Canyon after the Atlanta shootings. Two things that are unique to America.

Taken into a window. Shows both a reflection and the outside world.

A glassblower’s work in Cannon Beach.

A sunrise emerging over the city of Phoenix. Reminds me of the color palette given to L.A in the ’70s.

Sonoma, Arizona in all its vortexual magic.

Makes me think of The Old Man and the Sea. I hope Hemingway would approve!

I love when I find some wonderful mistakes in my film. This particular surprise I believe is the result of multiple exposures on one negative.

My father was very obsessed with the idea of seeing the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In this photo you can ALMOST see the river in all her glory.

A very, very old rock looking over some very old rock.

Superficial Love: Examining Elizabeth, Victor’s Favorite Lamp

In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the character of Elizabeth is said to be Victor’s cousin, sister and bride. But is she anything more than an object to serve Victor’s needs and desires? Or is she simply a “shrine-dedicated lamp," existing solely as a decoration to furnish Victor’s love life?

The BreadiBus Breadboard Computer

This funny thing happens at the end of your junior year at my school. Kyle pulls you aside and says “If you want to graduate, you’re going to need to spend your entire senior year making something.”
