Humanity Wins

I thought a lot about Laurie Anderson’s Big Science being personal to humans versus kind of detached and stilted, and while I decided that it’s definitely got an important piece of that isolation, it’s actually very human. I went through a lot of ideas on this project, and actually tried to dress up as a flight attendant from the ’80s and do a photo shoot, but none of it really felt like it touched on what I wanted it to (though the flight attendant photo is pretty cool).
Eventually I decided on taking a series of photos from my camera roll and commenting on my perception of the world vs. what was going on at the time. I was hoping to reflect on the album’s commentary on the detached state we as humans have towards anything which does not directly affect ourselves, as well as the violence we are capable of committing or acting as bystanders to simply by existing.
