the pearls weep for sophie

I reflected on the recent passing of the artist SOPHIE and how her work impacted me and expanded my perception of music and pushing boundaries of sound.

It is in the style of Laura Eve Engel inspired by the poem “for the sake of the heart we sacrifice the heart.”

the pearls weep for sophie

under the surf     the symphony of synths

undulating kelp     of no homeland

salutes her cheeks     no longer ruddy

a dance known well     in the nightdweller’s

tired playbook      chalcedony slips past

lips scales as skin     iridescent as dead retina

dense lashes salt clumped     child’s play

of the silt     laudation of the moon

in greek times      is just as ominous as

any other celestial body     an Icarus

on ice wings     succumbs to the gravitational

pull satellites live in     lilith falls to the sea

caressed by octopi     carried by what befell her

she slips on     latex shoulderly mitts

we almost touch     the sacred scales

and their grape     flavored cellophane

some golden     as Twig’s foil cross

we bow our     heads in sorrow

we bow to     headbang

flanging through     froth of milk

sodden sponge cake     with a crunch.
