Highlights from the Digital Photography Class

While the bulk of the photography published on the Pigeon Press has been taken on film, the school also has a digital photography class, taught by Nathan Lucas. Students in the class have the opportunity to practice modern editing techniques that require fewer specialty materials and less space.

The top one I took whilst snowshoeing on Mount Hood. I had been intrigued by the hair-like protrusions jutting out from the snow. So I bent down, inspecting the light as it refracted off the crystals of ice. This is definitely one of my favorites as it clearly portrays the beautiful minutia of nature.

The second picture is one of Cannon Beach, water clinging to the sand, held amongst its hills. These small pools act as mirrors, the endless abyss of the sky held inside it. There’s the line of the sea stretching off into infinity, a miniature mountain looming dark and mysterious in the distance.

I took this photo on Mount Tabor during sunrise. The cloud of steam is car exhaust, and I thought the way the sunlight filtered through it looked really interesting.

I took this photo in downtown Portland. I thought the yellow color of the alley contrasted against the blue of the sky well. I took the photo at a wide angle, which gives it kind of a surreal vibe.
