For the recent E/H 4 final project, students were tasked with creating an artistic response that explored the main themes presented in the class thus far, including family, home and patriarchs. Our group chose to represent the different patriarchal figures from the texts we covered as embodiments of the seven deadly sins. We chose characters from The House of Broken Angels by Luis Alberto Urrea, Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, Minari, a film directed by Lee Isaac Chung and Shoplifters directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. We then made collages of images that represent both the identity of the characters as well as the sins that they’re associated with.
The characters we assigned to each sin are as follows:
Wrath – Don Antonio from The House of Broken Angels
Pride – Big Angel from The House of Broken Angels
Sloth – Mr. Richardson from Little Fires Everywhere
Greed – Jacob from Minari
Gluttony – Mr. McCullough from Little Fires Everywhere
Envy – Shota from Shoplifters
Lust – Little Angel from The House of Broken Angels
