Possum Skin

Do you remember the walks at night
in the freezing cold?
bundled to our ears out
in the rain,
in the sundewed snow. You
really have bad timing,
you,
telling me you love me
again, like you know
how bad it hurts. But I just say
nothing, for another time,
and take the slow walk home,
rubbing
my eyes hard
just so I won’t see you
curled up in my bed
all sad and sweet.

You are wasting
time, wasting me away
when already
you’ve wasted it all.
